Raghad Waheeb
Clarkston High School YPI 2016-2017 I enjoyed learning and solving different medical cases in each session. I learned a lot of information from medical students at Emory University about how to apply to medical school, what should I do before I go to medical school, and how much effort and time I have to put into my study so I can be successful in medical school. Also, I enjoyed listening to different doctors about their experiences in being a doctor, and learning from them how to be a successful future doctor. It's a pleasure to be part of YPI program.

Firdous Abukar
Clarkston High School YPI 2016-2017 My name is Firdous Abukar and I was part of the Young Physician Initiative program at Clarkston High School. To become a doctor is a long and tough road and YPI helped me prepare early in an interactive environment. This program provides us with the steps we need to be aware of and take in becoming a doctor. It is a really interactive program where we were split in groups and solve actual cases just like in real life and the group was able to come up with differentials and diagnosis at the end. Many people are not exposed to such things until they are in college; however this type of programs allows high school students to be able to see the medical field they are interested in and go to college having an idea and a guide in what steps and classes to take next. In the community I live, Clarkston, is one of the most diverse communities in the US, so a program like this would make the youth in our community more involved and have a structure and an idea of what it’ll be like to be a doctor. Thanks to everyone who took the time to come and volunteer at my school and a special thanks to Dr.Heval Kelli for starting the program at my school.

Sita Magar
Clarkston High School YPI 2016-2017 My name is Sita Magar and a Senior at Clarkston High School. YPI has helped me to draw even more interest and make me more passionate about medicine. It has given me the sense of strong curiosity to explore an opportunity in this field regardless of any struggles that I would have to go through on my journey to pursue this goal. YPI program is different from other programs because they offer us the opportunity to solve real-world cases where we can make diagnoses for each sick patients. Through the program, we were able to get help from Emory medical students on our resume and personal essays.
The advice I would give to future students interested in medical is for them to not hesitate to bring your unique hidden talents because you will never know what your future holds. There is nothing impossible if you are dedicated, diligent, and very passionate about what you are doing. |
Aaron Cooper
Academe of Oaks YPI 2016-2017 For me, YPI was a very special experience. Not only did it allow me to connect with my fellow classmates, it allowed me to connect with medical professionals who are capable of giving me guidance to ensure my success. Unlike most programs that I have been to, YPI challenges themselves to keep things interesting and make sure that everyone truly loves what they're doing. In the end, a program run by people that care produces thoughtful global citizens. To anyone who may be considering medicine as their career path, find your local YPI program and join, there is nothing to lose and there is certainly much to gain.

Shams Waleed
Clarkston High School YPI 2016-2017 Young physicians initiative is a program that enable me to explore and gain knowledge of the medical field through engaging many activities with successful physicians. We always practice solving medical cases through role play, as a senior willing to graduate from high school and be a future doctor, it's my honor to advise my underclassmen to join this amazing program that can guide them to the right way for becoming a doctor, and also allowing them to experience the daily works of physicians and give them the opportunity to Explore the world of medicine. I appreciate everyone who volunteered in this program and also special thanks to Dr.kelli for spending his time to guide us into the right way.
